1. FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM

This category is applicable to those who want to settle and work in Canada but does not include the province of Quebec. (Quebec has its own separate application process).

Applicants under the Skilled Workers and Professionals Program become permanent residents by going through a selection process based on their education, work experience, ability to speak English and/or French, adaptability, and other criteria

New Update on the Federal Skilled Workers' Program (FSWP)

Beginning May 1, 2014, the Canadian government will start accepting applicants under the new set of occupations for the Federal Skilled Workers' Program (FSWP). A total of 25,000 applicants to different occupations will be accepted which will double last year's requirement from 24 to 50 eligible occupations. The applicant must have at least one year experience in any of the 50 occupations listed here which will accept 1,000 applicants each.

This does not apply if you:

• have a valid offer of arranged employment, or
• are applying under the PhD stream

This will be the last of this type of application that the Canadian government will accept before it launches the new system called Express Entry by January 2015.

Note: You must send the ff important documents:

• all needed forms,
• all important information,
• all required documents,
• signatures of applicant, and
• fees to be paid, including proof of work experience, language test results, and either a Canadian educational credential or a foreign credential and an assessment of your foreign education from an approved agency.

If your documents are not complete, your application will not be processed then we will send it back to you.

2. Pay the corresponding application fees

Fees you have to pay:

• Processing fee for you and all members of your family

You need to pay for everyone who will travel to Canada with you. Check the list of fees to see how much it will be.

If we find that you are not qualified, we will refund your processing fee.

• Right of Permanent Residence fee

You will have to pay this fee once your application has been approved. This includes you and your partner and all dependents who are coming with you. You have to pay it before we release your permanent resident visa.

This fee is refundable in case you cancel your application or if you do not use your visa at all.

• Other fees to be paid to other service providers:

• fee for medical exam,
• fee to obtain a police certificate, if you need one,
• an educational credential assessment (ECA) fee
• language testing fee, and
• fee for services of a Visa Application Centre if you use one.

You have to fill out the Fee Payment Form (IMM 5620) to be included in your application. Currently, online payment for skilled workers is not accepted.

3. Submit your complete application forms

Don't forget to

• have your application and all forms filled out and signed
• pay your processing fee, and
• complete and attach all supporting documents.

We will send your application back if they are incompelte. Check the Document Checklist for the things you will need.

You should:

• clikc the "validate" button to validate the Generic Application Form for Canadaonline. The page will outline any missing information in red.
• print the page where you will find the barcode, then
• attach the barcode page with your application forms

This will help make sure your application is complete and avoid delays.

Send your complete application forms and other documents and fee to theCentralized Intake Office in Sydney, Nova Scotia (Canada). Do not send your application to the visa office in your country.

The Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)

Those applying under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) must get anEducational Credential Assessment (ECA) of their completed foreign educational credentials. This policy took effect in May 2013.

The Educational Credential Assessment is used to certify that the degree, diploma or certificate that you earned outside Canada is equivalent to the Canadian educational credentials.

2. SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM

This is for people who want to immigrate based on being qualified in a skilled trade. You need to make an assessment to check if you are qualified to apply under this category.

Find out if you are eligible to come to Canada under the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

To qualify to the Skilled Trades Program, you should intend to

• live outside the province of Quebec (Quebec has its own selection criteria. If you intend to live in Quebec, check the Quebec-selected skilled workers for more information),
• fulfill the requirements in English or French for speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills
• must have at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade occupation.
• meet all job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), and
• should have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year** or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a provincial or territorial body.***

Full-time work means working for at least 30 hours a week, or an equal amount in part-time, paid work. For example:

• 15 hours a week work in one job in over four years, or
• a total of 30 combined hours a week in one or more jobs over two years.

Within the 5,000 cap, no more than 100 new applications for each job will be considered for processing.

There is a total of 90 jobs eligible for applicants to apply under the Federal Skilled Trades program this year. The codes from the 2011 version of the NOC are provided below. You must include them in your application form.

The caps apply both to those who have offer of employment or to those who have certificate of qualification from a province or territory.

3. THE QUEBEC SELECTED SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM

This category is for those who intend to settle and work in the province of Quebecand who have been previously selected by the Quebec government.

If you want to move to Quebec as a skilled worker, you need to undergo a separate selection procedure before your application can be processed by the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The first step is to obtain a Quebec Certificate of Selection.

4. CANADIAN CLASS EXPERIENCE

This category is applicable to temporary foreign workers in Canada and to students who have graduated from Canadian schools or universities. The government believes that their valuable experience gained in working in Canada and in attending a Canadian school or university make them easily adapt to Canadian life.

5. INVENTORS, ENTREPRENEURS AND SELF-EMPLOYED PEOPLE

This category is for those who want to own or start their own business in Canada or to work as self-employed immigrants. You have to meet different sets of criteria for each class.

6. PROVINCIAL NOMINEES

This category is for those who want to enter Canada by applying to one of the provinces' Nomination Programs. To qualify under the Provincial Nominee Program, an applicant must first be nominated by a particular province or territory.

7. FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

This category is for those who want to come to Canada through a sponsorship by a relative who is a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen. If you are a spouse, common-law-partner, conjugal partner, dependent child, adopted child or other qualified relative of a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, then you can come to Canada as a permanent resident under the Sponsorship Program.
